    VININGS VILLAGE CIVIC CLUB MINUTES
May 6, 2013
President Paul Zantzinger called the meeting to order, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Paul introduced Elizabeth McRae, president of Teasley Elementary's PAWS Foundation Board, who expressed the gratitude of the school faculty for our gift of $2500. This has enabled the school to buy materials for the Common Core curriculum and support the science program. Our $2500 donation helps young people learn and grow.

Paul read a warning alert of cars being rear-ended, owners being robbed and cars stolen. Advice is to stay in car, keep car in gear, call 911, put on hazard lights, watch in mirrors and if individuals get out and approach your car, drive away.

Paul suspended the usual business reports to hear from our panel of speakers: Representative Rich Golick, Commissioner Bob Ott, Senator Hunter Hill, School Board member Scott Sweeney. The audience was encouraged to write questions for the panel.

Tony Lazzaro introduced each panel member with a short bio.
Hunter Hill spoke on the bills he has passed and his interest in eliminating the personal income tax.
Rich Golick spoke on the balanced budget requirement in Georgia and concern over state graduation rates.
Bob Ott spoke on Cobb's triple A bond rating, appointment of his new assistant Thea Powell, and postponement till July 2014 of any action on including more commercial areas in our 30339 zip code.
Scott Sweeney spoke on overcrowded conditions at Teasley Elementary, the budget shortfall in Cobb, and his opposition to eliminating the senior tax exemption in Cobb.
Questions from the audience were then asked of panel members.
Paul  wished Eunice Gleason a happy birthday this month as she turns 90. He also announced that Reverent Beth Dickinson is moving to Athens. Efforts are underway to honor her cooperation with VHPS and many of the other organizations she has worked with in Vinings.

Paul also asked for a volunteer to fill the office of 1st VP
in charge of Programs  for 2013-2014.
He announced the annual Picnic, to be held at
6 pm on June 3 at the Vinings Historic Pavilion.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Blackwell, Secretary
