Meeting Minutes
September
12, 2011
Meeting of
VVCC was held Sept l2, 20ll at Teasley Elementary School with social hour and
refreshments from 6:30-7:00.
Meeting was
called to order by President Heidi Hein.
She led the
group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Tony Lazzaro,
VP Programs, introduced speaker and author Richard D. Jackson, who gave a very
motivating, humorous, and encouraging speech about his experience in observing
how successful people get results.
President Hein
asked for volunteers to chair hospitality, social, and public relations
committees. Jane Mitchell volunteered to be hospitality chair.
Minutes of
the meeting were not read, as the VVCC is posting the minutes on the web site.
Treasurer's report was given by Stella Richter.
Committee Chair Reports: Beautification Chairman Mary Ann Sikes
updated us on the area
behind the library stating that we would cooperate with cobb county on trying
to keep the detention area from becoming an eyesore again but that we could not
really undertake any of the plans that we had previously thought we might.
She
then introduced the motion by the Board to bring to the meeting the proposal to
donate $3000 to Teasley to help them reach their goal of $12,000 for an outdoor
classroom in the presently unused courtyard area of the school. Discussion was held and questions were raised
about the amount to be donated. Betty
smith pointed out that there was no main project this past year. She suggested
that if we considered Teasley to be the project for two years then actually the
amount would equal the typical amount donated to the community the year before
when the teen center was created at the library: $1500.
Heidi
called for a vote and it was passed.
Membership/Directory
Chairs Betty Smith and Wyn Engle reported that the absolute last day for dues
would be November 15 to be listed in the directory.
Membership dues had been received from 45 people. The goal is to maintain
last year's record membership of 250.
Directory ad campaign will start immediately with a goal of adding 10 more
pages of advertising. Ben Weinberg III, will join the directory committee
in soliciting new business ads.
Heidi
Hein introduced all of the new officers explaining that Paul Zantzinger would
not only be secretary but finance chair as well. Ben Weinberg has volunteered to be historian.
Heidi
then introduced Leslie Mansfield, the new principal of Teasley and Elizabeth McRae,
the president of the Paws Foundation (the fund raising organization for Teasley.) The murals that the Woman’s Club donated were
pointed out on the walls and over the door of the Media Room.
A note was read from Beth Dickinson, the
pastor of the Vinings United Methodist Church, thanking the club for the
donation for the use of their facilities last year.
Betty
smith was called to the podium and completely taken off guard when she was
presented with a thank you card stating that an honorary bench will be placed
at Teasley in her name recognizing her service to the club as president the
past two years.
The meeting was adjourned by Heidi
Hein.
The
next meeting (a social gathering) will be held at Taverna Fiorentina Restaurant
in honor of Columbus Day on October 3 at 6:30pm with reservations
of $25 per person being sent to Stella Richter before September 23.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Betty
Smith and Mary Ann Sikes
For Paul Zantzinger, Secretary
